We've all seen the ads: "Get your Real Estate Licence for $999! Done in 2 weeks!" It sounds too good to be true, and usually, it is.
The "Assessment Mill" Model
Some low-quality RTOs operate on a volume model. They give you a PDF textbook and a multiple-choice quiz. While this might get you a piece of paper, it leaves you woefully unprepared for the actual job. Worse, ASQA (the national regulator) is cracking down on these providers.
What Happens if Your RTO Closes?
If your RTO loses its registration due to poor quality, your qualification could be cancelled. We've seen students who had to retake their entire course because their original provider cut corners.
The Support Gap
Cheap courses often lack trainer support. When you get stuck on a complex trust accounting unit (and you will), there's no one to call. You end up paying extra for "tutoring" or extension fees, blowing out the cost.
What to Look For
- Trainer availability: Can you pick up the phone and talk to a human?
- Resources: Do they use modern video content or just PDFs?
- Reviews: Look for reviews that mention specific trainers by name.
